With help from Friends of LCCS and other donors, Lucas County Children Services is renovating the playground behind its Adams Street offices. LCCS broke ground on the physical work on September 10, 2021.

LCCS uses the playground to hold supervised visits between children in foster or relative care and their birth parents. Playground visits are constructive in helping bolster family bonds as parents work toward reuniting their families.

Two years ago, Friends of LCCS noticed the playground desperately needed an update and began raising money for the project. A steering committee sought input from various community partners, including Mom’s House, Toledo Metroparks, The Ability Center, Wood County JFS, and others.

Thanks to a kickoff donation from Toledo Physicians of Indian Origin and state and local grants, physical work is underway.

The Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center teamed with a Bowling Green State University summer art class to create an outdoor mural for the play area’s inner walls.

Once work is complete, the playground will be suitable for children up to 12 years old and inclusive for kids with all abilities.
